Complete website overhaul, content audit and redesign: Ontario’s autism website

Before | After

A before/after comparison of a complete website overhaul to renew and refresh the Ontario government’s autism website. The old site was migrated to a new platform that offers major accessibility improvements and a responsive user experience. The navigation, layout and design delivers information that is searchable, easy to find, use and understand – no matter who the audience is or what device they use.

I led and coordinated all aspects of this communications and marketing initiative, which began with an audit of the website’s landing page and 12 article pages. I edited and refined all content by taking complex subject matter and rewriting in plain language, ensuring it followed strict style guidelines. My project management involved working through feedback and revisions on all editorial and design work from internal clients and managing approvals from executive leadership all the way up to the Premier’s Office. The project scope involved more than 100 questions and dozens of revisions, requiring a painstaking attention to detail and superior liaising skills, organization and file management. My role also involved keeping content, team workflow, milestone reporting, deadlines and deliverables, testing, design and creative assets, translation, coding and many other tasks aligned, on time and on target.

Autism is one of the provincial government’s most difficult portfolios and every update, change or release of new information is high-profile, contentious and highly criticized. The new version of the site is the first point of contact and an information hub for all Ontario parents and families looking for information on autism. It has been met with positive reactions and praise from top internal leadership, stakeholders, advocates and the autism community.
